Developing a Green Future …
Pilgrim Place continues to move ahead on the Campus Development Project, including campus enhancements designed to keep Pilgrim Place competitive as a vital option for the next generations of people entering into retirement age.
In December 2008, construction begins on a project that moves Pilgrim Place toward a "green" future that incorporates environmental and technological enhancements that further strengthen this community's eco-friendly efforts to consume less energy, conserve water, improve indoor air quality, preserve the natural habitat, and rely on recycled materials.
Phase I (2008-2010)
Demolition of three small houses at Norton Garden, across Plymouth Road from Porter Hall.
Construct a new LEED-certified building at Norton Garden that will include administrative offices and 13 two-bedroom/two-bedroom independent living apartments with spacious floor plans, most of which have already been reserved by Approved Applicants! (See information below on what it means to be "LEED-certified.") These apartments are scheduled for occupancy in February 2010.
Close Plymouth Road between Mayflower and Alden Road to create a native plant garden and pedestrian mall.
Remodel Abernethy Dining Room and Garden Lounge.
Remodel Pitzer South Dining Room and Lounge
area for additional capacity.
Phase II (2009-2011)
Demolition of several small houses in Brooks Court and one house on Leyden Lane.
Construct a LEED-certified assisted living lodge adjacent to Pitzer South on Leyden Lane. This building includes 14 first-floor assisted living apartments and five second-floor two bedroom/two bathroom independent living apartments, plus one guest suite. The second floor apartments will be known as "The Amistad Apartments" and will be available for occupancy in August 2010.
Remodel the current Scrooby Lounge into an Exercise Center adjacent to the Aquatic Fitness Center.
Remodel the current Administration Building as the Napier Center, a new LEED-certified resident
activity center with meeting rooms, full kitchen, and multi-purpose space. Learn more about the Napier Initiative at Pilgrim Place.
Remodel current Exercise Center
into a two-bedroom home.
Add a new entrance to the Pilgrim Place Library.
LEED Certification
Pilgrim Place's new buildings will be LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Pilgrim Place may be the first free-standing retirement community in the United States to have three LEED-certified buildings. These buildings will meet exacting standards for sustainable development as established by the United States Green Building Council. Pilgrim Place is privileged to be part of a national pilot project for resident development called LEED for Homes.
Reserving one of the new Norton Garden and Amistad Apartments
Approved Applicants are eligible to reserve one of the remaining Norton Garden or Amistad Apartments as their future resident. For more information about the apartments, including floor plans, availability, and the reservation process, contact Janet Cromwell, Director of Admission, at 909-399-5504 or jcromwell@pilgrimplace.org.

Planning for the future
Much has been written about the surge of Baby Boomers who have just begun to retire. Throughout the entire Campus Development Project, Pilgrim Place has been attentive to the needs of this future generation of retirees, seeking to create a living environment that meets their needs while retaining Pilgrim Place's unique culture and ethos.
